make a rectangular section where you would like your blog to be, like so.
02. make a new layer, 
and fill it with white, so that it looks like this
03. change the opacity, here, just mess around to what ever you'd like. the main point of a blog is for it to be one color so that the text will show up though, so keep try to keep it at a high opacity.

03. make sure on your layer window the blog layer is still selected, go to layers, layer effects, and drop shadow. set the opacity to 100, and the distance to 5, like this. notice to the right what the drop shadow looks like on the blog. (:
04. go to pattern, & click the pattern you want like here. you may leave the options as is. for a tutorial on how to upload patterns, go here.
05. go to gradient, and it should be at the black and white one... just set it to 50% opacity wise, shown here.
06. go to color and use the eye dropper tool to pick the color you'd like the blog to be. :* make it about 60% like this
